Saturday 3rd June was one big night many people will not forget as the third edition of Bakiga Nation’s Rukundo Egumehoevent went down at the Hilltop Gardens in Naguru. The exciting which is held to promote and celebrate the Kiga cultural heritage through arts, Festivals, merchandise and charity is steadily developing into one huge social gathering not to be missed.
The event which is now in its third edition happens twice a year and Saturday’s edition was celebrated under the theme “Uganda for Bunyonyi kids” with mostly a bigger percentage of the crowd coming from the Kiga region of Bakiga based in Kampala coming for a common cause.
The gates opened as early as 2pm with a picnic setting at the large and spacious Hilltop Gardens with the theme “Uganda for Bunyonyi kids” which also acted as a charity drive aimed at fundraising for life jackets and mechanized boats for young school going children in the Kiga region was aptly coined as these children find it hard to cross the lake everyday while going to the nearby islands for studies and needed urgent help and indeed the revelers obliged as they turned up in big numbers for a good cause.
The event which was hosted by NTV’s Login Xtra presenter Tinah Teise saw guests trickling in as family, couples, and even individuals many came to catch up with relatives, friends and acquaintances. There were several activities that took place on Saturday among which included entertainment from Kiga cultural troupes, Art&Poetry, music entertainment from Kigezi local artistes, with a kids play area, there was also a colorful display of Kigezi cultural foods and buffet.
Different vendors of foods and drinks kept the place busy and not forgetting the fundraising activities for the children where millions of money was raised. Nyama choma, Bushera, local brew enturire and the famous very tasty “karechera sumbis” were in abundance as the guests had fun.
The party continued late in the night with guests dancing to the popular Bakiga dances, network working, mixing and mingling.
