Over the weekend, a screenshot of what looks like a fake Rema Namakula’s Facebook page made rounds on social media and it made people believe that Rema was attacking Bebe Cool over the recent comments he made on the recently implemented social media tax Through a post made in Rema’s name, the sexy singer is alleged to have written harsh words and later termed Bebe Cool comments as Bogus. However on Monday morning, Rema came out and distanced herself from the post and stated that it was just a fake Facebook page.
Using her real Facebook account, Rema cleared her name saying “ I have woken up to screenshots from so many people about the a particular post going around. But you all well know my page is verified and has a blue tick… So whoever has done all that fakery..sort your self out..I was not brought up to disrespect or judge people like that…..thank you” Rema disclaimed
Here is how Rema distanced her self from the Facebook post
Singer Bebe Cool labeled social media tax demonstration as ‘nuisance and unpatriotic’. According to Bebe, Members of Parliament must take the first blame. “All MPs no matter the party are to blame for the new taxes that seem to be burdening most Ugandans.” Bebe Cool was quoted saying.
The singer further questioned why we did not witness any scuffles in parliament when the taxes were being tabled and later passed “They let the proposed taxes pass without any fight as we saw during the age limit. But now they are fooling Ugandans as they were not aware of the taxes.” Bebe Cool said
Bebe further said that artistes involved in the mobilizing demonstration are seeking cheap popularity. “Those involved are looking for the stupid spotlight. Artistes are the first people who don’t pay tax off their gigs. Yet ordinary Ugandans pay taxes from the little they earn” he added.
Back to the tax, Bebe Cool says, before the leaders plan to engage in any debate, they must first sensitize their people on why the government is in need of more taxes. He further says the new tax will help curb the violators of social media.
