The Elly Wamala foundation recently organised a campaign to redo the late veteran’s hit songs and many top local artistes were assigned particular songs. Some nailed it some failed miserably. However one star who recently joined the campaign is the budding star diva Rema Namakula who never seems to disappoint when working on any project.
Her version of Wamal’s ‘Lowooza Kunze’ is so heart melting that Rema’s voice seems to be getting more and more better and sweeter to the ears. Although the star is heavy and almost ready to push, she still comes up with an angelic look in the video with that killer smile enhanced by much envied dimples on her cheeks.
Elly Wamala’s original song carries a rich message just like most of his other songs, however the way the renditions have done really matters in the way of expression rhythm and flow of the vocals which Rema has no issues with when it comes to execution.
The tempo is so smooth you can tell a pro is in control. I love Rema’s balance of the pitches as she oscillates between the highs and lows at the same time, knows when to keep it in the middle keys.
Done by Kiwuwa at Grace Records, the instrumentation is rich too and you can almost feel the ‘live performance’ in it. Most especially with the trumpets and base guitar that highlights the veteran’s trade mark Afro-soul Kadongo kamu style.
And of course the song is a love song in which she sings about trust and ignoring jealous rumour mongers. She pleads to her love to trust and believe in her, love and care only for her as they mind their own (love) business because the rest (schemers) are ‘not good enough’.
The icing on the cake is the colourful video with an African touch in the fashion and style as well as the setting and land scape scene from where it was shot. Everything balances to perfection. No wonder fans were so much in love with her at the Tribute concert held in Kampala Serena Hotel. Watch video below and share your views on our facebook page.
