Rookie Young Stars Shine At First Ever Rising Star Awards

Saturday was the day, Rising Star Awards the platform and Theatre Labonita the venue. The atmosphere well set as Muslims around the world celebrated Id Adhuha. It was time to recognize the effort of mostly young and upcoming artists as well as a few established ones in various award categories.

It was time for youngsters especially up and coming artists to shine as the Rising Star Awards were bequeathed unto the deserving winners. Excitement filled the comfy theatre as fans cheered on their favorite stars, am which included some local celebrities like Jazz wizard Isaiah Katumwa, Producer Nash Wonder, NTV’s Anita Fabiola and Miles Rwamiti with MC Casmir as the MC of the night.

There were a few surprises as well as eyebrow raising decisions as ‘unknown’ artists beat some stars to awards which were not expected while some missed out completely from the list of nominees to the disappointment of their respective fans.

For instance the debate started raging on as soon as Radio and Weasel were announced as Uganda’s most Internationally Recognized Icon/Iconic Artist and also won the Best Rising RnB Song for ‘Neera’ with sections of fans questioning whether they were actually ‘Rising Stars’

However there was excitement as some ‘deserving’ artists walked with accolades in different categories. Case in point is Melody whose song ‘Nkoleki’ ft Jose Chameleone has taken the airwaves by storm. The youngster walked away with the Outstanding Breakthrough Rookie Artist of the year Award beating the likes of Dan Flevor in the process.

Other artists who walked away with Awards included Irene Ntale (Best Female Rising Artist) who has had a very productive year churning some serious hit songs like ‘Gyobera’ as well as Pallaso (Best Male Rising Artist) and Eddie Kenzo who took two awards home.

The organizers are planning to include some dance crews, comedy and DJ categories for next year to broaden the categories. The Awards were organized by Rising Star Media & Limitless Production and sponsored by CELEBRITY BUZZ, NBS, WBS, CLUB BEER & SMS ONE among others
