Rugby Afrique: Uganda 59-10 Botswana
Uganda Rugby Cranes team made the nation and fans proud on Saturday after demolishing Botwana 59-10 at Kydondo Rugby grounds to qualify for the coveted Rugby Tier 1A and relegating Tunisia in the process. Celebrations kicked off immediately after the final whistle and went on till late in the night and many fans had one of the best weekends of their lives.
The fans who graced the Saturday heat from Morning to follow proceedings from other remaining matches, were patient to wait till 4:30 when the national team took to the turf knowing a big win would guarantee the Cranes progress from Tier 1B.
The fans patience was rewarded almost straight away from kick-off as Centre Michael Wokorach scored the opening try and Kevin Makmot converted to give Uganda an early 7-0 and send the fans into over drive. And although Botswana pulled a penalty back, it did little for a come back.
There after it was a one way as Ronald Musajjagulyango stretched the lead, before Justin Kimono scored his first try of the tournament with Makmot again converting.
Wokorach who was on top form was distributing pinpoint passes from midfield threaded to Lawrence Ssebuliba to touch down as Scot Oluoch added to take the lead to 38-3 at half time. The rout continued till Botswana had a consolation touch down for a final score of 52-10.
Celebrations kicked off immediately and when award ceremony started many fans that enjoyed drinks and Nyama choma the whole evening started dancing with top city comedian Salvador Idringi leading in the chants before Gagamel Boss Bebe Cool took to stage to sing some of his popular songs off his new Go Mama album .
The highlight of the evening was when the Ivory Coast team took to the podium and sang some frenzied songs as the animated players exhibited a lot of energy to show how it’s done in West Africa. The party then went on till late in the night.
