Following the successful project with Patoranking called Melanin, Kenya’s music powerhouse and award-winning afro-pop group Sauti Sol, are yet back at it raiding West Africa for more collaborations with their latest featuring Nigeria’s diva Tiwa Savage. The East African all boy-band teams up with the Nigerian queen of pop on ‘The Girl Next Door’ their second single off Sauti’s LP titled ‘African Sauce.’
The absorbing love song was composed by Sauti Sol, mixed and mastered by Supersonic Africa, written and performed by Sauti Sol and Tiwa Savage heself alongside Fencee and Fena Gitu from Kenya. It’s a love story about two young people who live in the same block and are madly in love.
The tune produced by Maleek Berry has a story flow which is deeply controlled by the magic fingers of Polycarp who controls theme melancholy rhythm with his guitar with the usual vocal balance achieved by the immensely talented boys. Tiwa adds the spices with her smooth melodious tone to wrap up the love feeling.
“It’s been such an honor to work with Sauti Sol as I have been a big fan of their work since their first album ‘MWANZO’ back in 2008. I am looking forward to us performing GIRL NEXT DOOR live in Kenya in the near future.” Tiwa said.
Sauti Sol’s Afrikan Sauce LP is the fifth major studio project and a follow up to the LIVE AND DIE IN AFRIKA album. The compositions are a fusion of neo-pop vibes and rich African sounds that speak truth to what love, life and Africa is.
“We love this jam so much! We’ve been eying Tiwa Savage for years and we’ve always wanted to work with her. The collabo was seamless and everything we anticipated it would be.” Sauti Sol said in a statement.
The video which was shot and directed by Unlimited LA in Nigeria is a straight up narration of the love story with Bien Aime and Tiwa ‘the girl next door’ playing the love-birds.
