Well, we have to move by trends and indeed it is the era of ‘Slay Queens’ and every where they are painting all events and social gatherings with the hip flowery looks and possessing dope gadgets. Or by the way if you kinda got lost somewhere, we will help. See, the Slay Queens as they have come to be known in the e-generation, are the socialites or hot babes and mamas who grace social events looking so yummy that, even the latest phones they hold are not good enough to handle their looks that they keep taking a thousand selfies just to get that one ‘good shot’.
Now that you know what we are talking about, let’s get back to the story. Yesterday was one of those days the Slay Queens will not forget in their lives. First because ‘ The Roast And Rhyme Story Teller’s edition happened at the Jahazi Pier in Munyonyo and served all tribes of stories from across the country, and also secondly because they (the Slay Queens) turned up in big numbers to listen to the stories or rather capture the moments on their phones to share with their friends on social media.
For the organisers Swangz Avenue and Buzz events, it was big business as their trick of offering Nyama choma to those who showed up before 3pm worked miracles. Many of the revellers indeed turned up early, booked the best spots armed with their mats, picnic chairs and also had time to adjust on their makeup and related niceties before munching on the freebies. We love them, isn’t it?
So the crowd was there, the Nyama Choma plenty and drinks kept flowing courtesy of sponsors Bell Beer. The stage was set early enough and sound fine-tuned to crystal for the line up of story tellers was mouth-watering. The talented Kenneth Mugabi, ever-green Janzi Band and the beautiful Naava Grey were so awesome that, most of us are still getting to grips of the stories they told. It just keeps re-playing in the head none-stop.
And to crown it all, the new kid on the block YKee Benda wrapped it up with another energetic live performance as the queens could not hold it any more but ended up next to stage dancing to ‘Muna Kampala’, ‘Farmer’ and ‘Eva’ and of course capturing the moment on their smart phones before Janzi returned to close it all at around 10pm. Check out photos below of how the queens did their thing with swag.
