Ugandans can brace themselves for an invasion of some of the best artistes on the continent like Koffi Olomidde, Fally Ipupa, Cuppy, Cassper Nyovest, Fabregas Le Metis Noir, Felix Wazekwa and Ferre Gola as the second edition of African Music Industry people’s choice Awards (AMIA) takes place at Kampala Serena Hotel next weekend.
The continental awards which will be happening for the first time in Kampala is expected to award Africa’s best in music and will also be a celebration of fashion as some of the best designers will be showcasing on the day.
“We are not organising these awards to replace the Kora awards, but we are doing something similar only to fill the void that was left by the now-defunct awards in our own style” Stella Nantumbwe the Vice President of the AMI Awards said at a press briefing.
Mr Esaie Schnaps while introducing the Awards to the world in a statement said that the awards are here to celebrate African heritage and talent.
“Musicians, celebrities, and world-renowned dignitaries have captured audiences for generations – transforming and challenging our understating. They enable us to see ourselves in each other, celebrate our triumphs and illustrate our flaws while creating a space for the many narratives that reflect our rich, collective cultures and history together.” Schnaps said.
“AMI Awards Afrika will honour together with Schnaps Universe Inc. and the ESA Foundation the African artists, Community leaders, International Political figures, Dignitaries, Celebrities and stars who are pioneers in arts, music fashion. We are dedicated to the well-being, prosperity and preservation of the future of the youths in the African communities and families everywhere around the world through our Arts and Cultures. We strive for our stellar philanthropic efforts to leave an everlasting impression that will be felt for generations to come. ” He added
According to the organisers, some of the top African stars have already confirmed attendance either as guest performers or award nominees and will join their Ugandan counterparts at the star-studded red carpet event that will take place on March 24th.
The AMI Awards Afrika (“African Music Industry Awards”) is a multi-cultural award with the sole purpose of honouring Africans Artists and Musicians, Arts and Cultures, Entertainment Humanitarian Acts, Entertainment Leaders, Entertainment Entrepreneurs and Creative Spirit of ordinary people who have captured audiences for generations and challenged our understanding through their arts and works.
