Celebrations are on going around the country as Uganda Cranes kicked off their 2017 qualifier with an impressive 2-0 win over visiting Botswana’s Zebras in group D.
Many parts of Kampala especially suburbs near Namboole on Jinja road are jam packed with lots of soccer fans celebrating the win. Places like Banda, Kireka and Bweyogere have been busy the whole day with excited soccer fans drinking and dancing. The celebrations that kick started immediately after he final whistle at the stadium.
Goals from Captain Geoffrey Massa and striker Brian Umony secured the win for the East Africans at home in Mandela National Stadium, Namboole to begin the journey for 2017.
After a goal less first half wit few clear cut chances Coach Micho introduced URA striker Robert Sentongo for Godfrey Walusimbi and Uganda Cranes scored 10 minutes after the break, with impressive Rio Ave winger William Luwagga Kizito setting up Massa who perfectly headed past goal keeper Kabelo Dambe from a free kick, to spark off wild celebrations from the home crowd that managed to fill the stadium in good numbers despite an earlier downpour.
Cranes were at it shortly when Luwagga combined with full back Denis Guma on the right who squaring another ground pass for on rushing striker Umony who calmly finished with the left foot to double the lead and send the nation into wild cheers.
Although the usual entertainment from local artistes was missing, Uncle money an Komodo were at their best as usual leading the cheering with colorful cheer leaders dancing on the pitch to entertain fans during the breaks.
