Uganda jubilated when they learnt that Ykee Benda had recorded a song with Jason Derulo. A song that went ahead to become the theme and official song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Rumors then started doing rounds that the ‘Malaika’ musician was also slated to perform at the opening ceremony of the biggest football tournament in the world.
He too kept their hopes alive but that was not until yesterday when an audio clip emerged on social media and Ykee was heard saying how he was not going to perform at the world cup in Russia.
Ykee Benda in the audio clip said that he is going to be in Russia but will not be performing as said. He however didn’t give his reasons why yet the artiste (Jason Derulo) he featured with on the song is definitely going to perform it live
In the same clip, Benda was even heard saying that he was personaly going to break the news to his fans and followers. Fans were all ears wating for the official communication which did not come out untill today the 14th of June when the long awaitd World Cup is kicking off.
“After recording the world cup anthem with Jason Derulo, people especially journalists concluded that I was going to perform at World Cup. The vybe was too much and I couldn’t also refuse it. I did not say I was going to performing but you guys (journalists) said it. The truth is I am going to Russia but I am going on 12th of July so I will be there for the finals on 15th July but the difference or the bad news is, I will not hold a microphone to entertain the people but don’t be suprised when Jason Derulo does not perform as well” Ykee Benda cleared the air in videp he shared on his Facebook page
If the Ykee Benda was to perform at this tournament, he would definitely be the first Ugandan artiste to do so and that would be making history.
