Uganda’s BET award winner Eddy Kenzo was in bullish mood at the just concluded Uganda Entertainment Awards after scooping 3 gongs. He says finally Uganda is starting to recognise his efforts and talents after being cheated in many other previous Awards.
He claimed despite being a big name and super star outside Uganda, at home he has never been given the credit he deserves and is always cheated by organisers who opt to recognise other artistes instead. The Uganda Entertainment Awards were held on Friday 19th August at Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria hall.
“This is the first time I am attending an Awards ceremony in Uganda. The reason is because they usually cheat me. But let’s leave politics alone and go for competition”. Kenzo said in a mixture of English and luganda.
“I have won awards many places. I won Best East African Artiste in Burkina Faso, I also won Best New East African Artiste in 2014 which was in Australia I have that one. I won Best East African African artiste In Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2015, Ladies and gentlemen, I won the BET Award which means I am left with one – The Grammy awards.” Kenzo told the cheering crowd after being crowned ‘Artiste of the year’
Kenzo real names Edirisa Musuza, had also bagged the Best video of the year(Solaye) and Best East African Act awards beating the likes of Radio and Weasel, Bebe Cool, David Lutalo and Apass in the process. He came with a big army of his Big Talent Entertainment crew who escorted him on stage each time they announced him as winner and ‘begged’ to speak English despite many media outlets making fun of him for his poor comprehension of the language.
