‘Tugende Mu Kikadde’ loosely translated as ‘back to my roots’ is an upcoming event organised by Sprout Africa slated to take place on Saturday the 6th of May In Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall. With an aim of doing it annually, the 2017’s edition will feature Uganda’s music veterans and legendary singers namely Afrigo Band, Halima Namakula, Kabuye Sembogga, Sammy Kasule, Mariam Ndagire and Frank Mbalire.
The event’s intention is to showcase living music veterans who did music in the early years and last Friday evening (the 21st of April), Sprout Africa held a press conference at Uganda Breweries Limited headquarters in Luzira where they enlightened journalists on what is expected.
“Tugende Mu Kikadde is not just an event, 6th May is going to be one of the biggest memorable days in the new generation. We grew up listening to those guys, our parents used to dance to these guys’ music even up to now. We have seen them perform in different areas but this time, we want to give you the VIP feel having all these legends on one stage, in one venue where you don’t have to be afraid of anything and it going to be an annual event.” Musa Kisule Sulaiman the Public Relations officer Sprout Africa said
“We have seen many red carpet events but this is going to be one of the biggest red carpet events and not just big a vintage event with unusual stuff.” Sulaiman added.
The conference was supposed to have unveiled the headlining artistes although they did not appear because of the Friday Kampala traffic Jam but only one artiste Kabuye Sembogga made it although late. Journalists also got know who the show’s sponsoring companies are and they are; SMS ONE, Uganda Waragi, MTN, Pay Way, Silk Events, Factory Africa, The Shongaz Advertising Media Company Limited and Haloha Brand Architects.
