The party mood in the town of Masaka was set early with the town drive and procession of MTN cars which were announcing the return of the MoMo Nyabo campaign for season 2 dubbed the ‘Momo Nyabo Neera’ campaign.
Excited Masaka residents lined up the streets to welcome and greet the MTN procession on Friday afternoon as they braved the afternoon sunshine.
However, it was later in the evening at the Recreation Grounds that the real action happened as several entertainers mostly sexy dancers and comedians that hyped up the crowd to warm it up for the big boys.
Talking of big boys, it can’t come any bigger than Dr Jose Chameleone himself who surprisingly appeared first on stage of the big-name artistes from Kampala who had been lined up to headline at the launch.
Chameleone, 40, who also lately refers to himself as ‘Lord Mayor’ looked in party moods as he sang his top songs with the trademark hoarse voice penetrating easily through the crowd that was getting bigger and bigger by the minute.
He, as usual was a stage gladiator trotting from one corner of the stage to another, while urging the crowd to put up their hands or just wave and swing this way or that way as they duly complied creating a beautiful visual movement. Although he stormed the stage dressed in casual body hugging T-shirt and jeans, he later changed into a yellow MTN T-shirt and even started dishing out some to the fans.
He performed some of his old songs like ‘Mamia Mia’, ‘Mambo Bado’, ‘Nkoleki ki’ and mixed it up with recent ones like ‘Wale Wale’,’ Mateeka’ before living the stage for Bebe Cool who did not waste time and also got straight to business with ‘Up n Wine’.
The two although having on and off friendship especially due to big egos, did not care sharing the same stage considering it’s basically business that put them there.
Just like chameloene, Bebe also mashed it up with a mix of his genres from old school to current hits which the crowd seems to enjoy as they jumped up and down like excited toddlers at a zoo. The Masaka people could not have enough of the two but at least got the party rolling.
The party then continued late into the night as Masaka got the first winners of the MoMo Nyabo promo who won 2 motor bikes as they celebrated late into the night.
