2021 Airtel FUFA Awards Launched, Here Are The Nominees To Look Out For

The Airtel FUFA Awards are back with a bang as the nominees for the 2021 Airtel FUFA Awards were revealed this morning with organisers and sponsors all emphasizing the need to reward talent and excellence in sport.

This year’s awards which are organized under the theme; ‘Celebrating Uganda’s Finest Football Personalities’ will be held on December 4th at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The awards were not held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic but have returned this year with 13 categories. The winners are expected to walk away with big prizes ranging from Cars to cash and other goodies from the official sponsors.

The official launch of the Airtel FUFA Awards took place this morning at Stonehaven hotel in Kololo.

Airtel Uganda who have injected Sh100m into the awards are the lead sponsors with their Managing Director Manoj Murali, commending FUFA for laying a good foundation for footballers to showcase their skills.

Other sponsors include Nile Special, NIC Holdings, Nivana water, Pepsi, Ecobank, BIDCO and 102.1 FUFA FM while the event is organized by KIBO Media.

Mr Justus Mugisha who represented FUFA president Eng.Hon. Moses Magogo, sent a strong message on the growth and development of football at all levels. Challenging the sponsors and stakeholders to pay keen interest in the Ladies football as well.

Officials from FUFA Secretariat and The Uganda Premier League were also present at the media launch.

Male and Female Best player nominees revealed:

The Airtel–FUFA Male and Player of the Year 2021 nominees were voted for by the coaches and Captains nominated who sent in a list of five (5) players each.

And the nominees for the Airtel FUFA Male Player of the Year 2021 are;

 Kenzo Erick Kambale (Express FC) who was integral as Express FC clinched the league title, their seventh in club history and their first since 2012, scoring 15 goals, one goal below last season’s top scorer Yunus Sentamu who had 16.

Bobosi Byaruhanga (Vipers SC), helped Vipers win the Uganda Cup and played an integral part in the under 20’s run to the final of the African Cup.

Yunus Ssentamu (Vipers SC) just like Bobosi was also key in helping Vipers win the Uganda Cup as well as finishing top scorer in the UPL.

Abdul Aziizi Kayondo (Vipers SC) and had an incredible season that also saw him feature prominently for the U20 side and also in the senior side this year during World Cup qualifiers.

Shafik Kagimu (URA FC) who is known for his sleek touches and wide range of passing, scored nine goals to help URA finish second in the league last season.

While for the ladies, The Airtel-FUFA Female Player of the Year 2021 nominees are; Magret Kunihira (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC), Joan Naggayi (She Maroons FC), Daisy Nakaziro (Lady Doves FC), Fauzia Najjemba (Kampala Queens FC) and Fazila Ikwaput (Lady Doves FC).

The organisers added that voting methods and other nominees for the remaining categories will be unveiled in due course.
