Famous pilau cook and former Kisenyi councilor Salim Uhuru was allegedly caught on the wrong side of the law after he was arrested yesterday, on accusations of smuggling rice from Malaba by Uganda Revenue Authority.
One account said that upon reaching Malaba border, Uhuru was asked what he was transporting and his reply was cement but when the guards ordered him to open the track, it was found out he was illegally transporting rice.
On recognition, the NRM Vice Chairman Kampala Region was arrested and transported to Kampala where he was detained. Later, he was released on bail.
When contacted about these allegations, Uhuru maintained said those were lies perpetrated against him.
“I was never arrested and whoever has the proof of my arrest should come out with it” He said.
Uhuru also mentioned that he is a Ugandan who respects the law and strives to do what is right.
“I’m a law abiding citizen who will never be involved in illegal activities.” He added.
Salim Uhuru is the proprietor of Uhuru restaurants on Zainabu Aziz Emporium and Kisenyi branches, a franchise that has made him well known nationwide for the tasty pilau they offer. He has also been actively involved in politics until recently when he was defeated by Kibedi Nsegumire in the NRM primaries.
