Fire base crew president Bobi Wine and recently re-elected Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda Rebecca Kadaga have been confirmed as the chief walkers for this year’s sickle cell awareness charity walk that will be taking place on Saturday 27th May 2016.
Bobi Wine has become a fan favourite countrywide for his participation in various charitable acts as well as political maturity during the elections season.
The walk will mark the end of the 6th International Symposium on Sickle Cell Disease in Central Africa that will be taking place between 25-27th May, 2016 at Hotel Africa in Kampala.
The charity walk that will be attended by people from all walks of life has been organized The Sickle Cell Association of Uganda, Ministry of Health, Kampala Capital City Authority and other groups and societies that work towards eliminating the disease in Uganda.
The symposium, that is being funded by the Sickle Cell Disease Research Network in Central Africa will tackle issues such as accessible treatments, new technologies and innovations in the fight against sickle cells among other issues
Key note speakers will include Dr. Jane Ruth Achieng, the Ministry of Health director general, Dr. Dorothy Kigozi and others.
International participants will pay $ 100 while locals will pay $50 while students will pay only $ 30.
