For those who don’t know what a Hijab is, they are those long dresses that Muslim women usually put on while going for prayers and lately going by fashion, they come in handy in different sizes and designs and this was evident last Saturday afternoon at UMA Conference Hall when ladies exhibited their designs of hijabs at an event dubbed ‘Hijab Fashion Show’.
This being the 3rd edition of the annual event, the venue was full as ladies took to the runway looking elegant. They showcased different attires from weeding gowns, casual hijabs and Gomesi hijabs among others and they were tailored here in Uganda by specific designers.
Among the renowned designers who showcased included Husna’s hub, JHH fashions, AQL Muslimah. Habaya and Rizik among others.
According to Jamidah Nakaye, the chairperson of the fashion show, the main aim of holding the event is to inspire women to the rightful hijab.
“An Islamic rightful hijab should not be tight and transparent. It should be able to cover the whole body leaving only hands and the face, but women today show all kinds of trends because of change. It is exactly for this reason that we decided to ounce every year hold the ‘Hijab fashion show’ to showcase the different types of hijabs to inspire women.” She said.
“We showcased only hijabs because we want to clear the stereotypes about hijabs being an oppression that is why we showed clothes for all accessories from work to weekend wear, casuals and finally events wear.” She added.
The ladies event was organized by corporate Muslim association and the best model was Nabirah Jamidah.
