“A Custom Digital Experience” – Nyege Nyege Music Festival 2020 To Be Held ‘Scientifically’

Lovers of contemporary music and the picnic experience will be disappointed as Nyege Nyege music festival has been moved to a digital platform due to obvious reasons related to ban on crowds due the coronavirus outbreak worldwide.

The pandemic has wrecked havoc across the globe, causing several countries like Uganda to close their borders, ban international and local passenger flights and even declare lockdowns and curfews as stringent measures to curb the spread of the deadly disease.

All gatherings, whether social religious or political that attract huge crowds have been banned with most now being held in a ‘scientific’ manner where only a few key people are allowed. President Yoweri Museveni made the decrees during the many state of the nation addresses where the measures took effect immediately although some have now been loosened up.

But not all is lost as organisers of the festival have decided to organize a scientific party for their fans instead of the traditional festival that usually takes place at Nile Discovery Beach at the source of River Nile in Jinja to safety reasons.. Dates for the physical festival will be announced in August.

“Transcending boundaries once again, this year the pioneering African music festival combines a COVID safe party in Uganda with a custom digital experience, showcasing breathtaking music co-curated by 20 collectives from across the Continent”. They posted in a statement on twitter.

The organizers say they are working in conjunction with The Village UG and Talent Africa, had to look for an alternative so as to keep the fire of the festival that usually attracts thousands, burning. The digital event will run from September 3rd-6th 2020.

“We had to get creative & innovative, consult & collaborate to bring you a BLUE MOON PARTY with @TheVillageUG & @talentafrica An immersive VR clubbing experience & astro world level production that will drown your senses in total party bliss.”

However details about the fee for the digital event and ticketing are not yet out and will be released in due course.

“We are inviting you down the rabbit hole to this unique opportunity to explore the full potential of an online component to the festival with in-person global events from Sep 3rd-6th 2020. All tickets will be re-imbursed & new prices communicated” The statement concludes.
