Ever since the use of airtime scratch cards was banned in Uganda last year, it has noticeably been kind of hard for Africell subscribers to buy airtime. The only way to get it, one has to go to the Africell outlets which are not available in many places especially places far from urban areas.
After hearing and considering their customers’ complaints countrywide, Africell decided to partner with MTN Uganda to solve this problem. Going forward, Africell users can now top-up airtime and data bundles from any MTN Mobile Money agent anywhere in the country.
This one of a kind solution stemming from the continuous the engagement between the managements of the two telecom companies was officially unveiled on Tuesday morning at a press briefing held at Mestil Hotel located in Nsambya, Kampala.
“We are here to launch the MTN-Africell assisted service and this is a service where we are going to leverage on the huge investment that has been made by MTN. We have reached a phase of collaboration, we have moved away from direct competition to that of operation where we work together to make sure that we optimize on the resources that we have invested in the industry but also ensure that we serve our customers and deliver value for the industry.” Said Alex Wekoye the sales director Africell
With this service, Africell customers will be able to buy airtime of all amounts, data bundles as well as social media bundles like SWIFT and 4G bundles on their phones. It renders real time transactions with no delays and upon a successful purchase, the customer receives a notification message to confirm the transaction.
However, it should be noted that an Africell customer will only access this MTN-Africell assisted service from an MTN Mobile money agent not from a personal mobile money account.
