Danny Welbeck missed a clear cut chance

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished another fine breakaway to double Dortmund’s lead after new £16m striker Danny Welbeck had wasted Arsenal’s best chance when clean through in the first half.
That miss by the England and former Manchester United striker proved costly as Dortmund score moments later to expose Arsenal’s defensive frailties and lack of clinical finishing. Welbeck has now wasted two clear cut chances ever since joining from Manchester United, Dortmund themselves wasted numerous chances after creating so many goal scoring opportunities with Aubameyang hitting the cross bar.
Arsenal who are competing at this stage of the Champions League for the 17th year in a row, have progressed to the knockout rounds before after losing their opening group game. However the immediate concern is now in the defensive midfield area as well as a loss of form on the part of Germany star midfielder Mesut Ozil and Mikel Arteta,
In other games, Liverpool overcame a determined Ludogorets Razgrad after Steven Gerrard’s stoppage-time penalty ensured Liverpool marked their return to Champions League football with a victory over the Bulgarian champions. Mario Balotelli opened his Liverpool account when he held off two defenders and poked home his first goal for the Reds. A Gareth Bale inspired Real Madrid thrashed Basel 5-1 to start the defence of their title.
