Ugandan artistes with the most downloads on MTN CallerTunez will be awarded with money as a token of appreciation from MTN Uganda.
Season two of these awards that is starting this month and ending in December was launched live on NBS TV on Thursday evening
Onyait Odeke, MTN managing director in charge of digital services said they decided to revive MTN CallerTunez using the monthly awards to enable local artistes win money during this time when they can no longer perform because of the spread of Covid-19 which had caused the closure of bars and other hangout places, without forgetting the suspension of social events.
“We also want fans to connect with their artiste by subscribing to the songs of their choice and the best artiste will be winning a cash prize of Shs 2 million,” He said during the launch
He added that even MTN 20 lucky customers that download or actively use MTN CallerTunez will have a chance to win money up to 50,000.
Also, Artistes or authors of the content that has the most improved monthly downloads will UGX 1 million in that month.
James Proper of Content Connect Africa, one of the companies established by MTN Uganda to handle callertunez and digital distribution of music in Africa and the world said that he has been moving to media houses to promote digital promotion of music and is happy to see that season two of these awards has come at a time when artistes need to push their music using digital platforms as concerts are still banned because of Covid-19.
The MTN CallerTunez Awards are meant to recognize and reward both the artistes that create the content used as caller tunes as well as the customers who download and use the tunes.
