Ailing WBS Television journalist, Andrew Lwanga who was battered by a police officer last year, will check in at Kampala Hospital next Wednesday for a spinal operation which has fully been paid for by President Yoweri Museveni.
The NRM sole candidate in the ongoing Presidential campaigns paid 20million shillings, 10.4million for the operation and 9.6million for extra treatment.
According to Lindah Nabusayi, the president’s press secretary, the money was released on the directives of the president to cater for the journalist’s medical bills. She also adds that on January 18th, “President Museveni dispatched Dr. Richard Katungye, a medical officer with the Special Forces Command to immediately check on Lwanga and assess his situation. He then travelled to Muyenga and met Lwanga and his family, examined all the medical records and decided to take Lwanga to Kampala Hospital and checked him in with Dr Mallon Nyati, an orthopedic surgeon and a specialist in spinal cord surgery.
“My assessment was that after one year of no proper operation, his situation deteriorated. I took Lwanga to Dr. Nyati who said an operation on his back is possible, so we booked him an appointment,” Dr. Katungye said.
The money was released last week and Lwanga will check in on Tuesday at Kampala hospital and the operation will be done on Wednesday that same week.
