Veteran Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeat singer Bebe Cool had maintained his silence ever since his onetime Fire Base Crew member Bobi Wine was involved in the recent Arua by-election saga where he was allegedly assaulted by security forces thus obtaining nasty body injuries which he is currently treating in the United States.
Meanwhile, as all this was going on, Bobi Wine fans and well wishers through ‘Free Bobi Wine’ umbrella have been attacking Bebe Cool, accusing him of ‘caring less’ while his fellow musician Bobi is being tortured. Many had a belief that basing on Bebe’s good relationship with the head of state, he would convince him to release Bobi Wine but this wasn’t the case
As Bebe Cool was performing at the Swangz All Star Concert last Friday the 31st of August, he was left embarrassed after angry ‘People Power’ fans booed him off stage by throwing bottles full of urine among other liquid substances at him. There is also unconfirmed information that the fans are not about to stop attacking Bebe at any public performance. For that matter therefore, Bebe decided to suspend all public performances until further notice.
“While at a performance last Friday, i was pelted with bottles and stones by a group of people purportedly because i do not subscribe to their political beliefs. For the safety of myself, family, friends and fans, i regrettably would like to announce that i will not be making any public performances until further notice. My prayer is that the current situation in our beloved country doesn’t deteriorate into an unfortunate state.” Read part of Bebe Cool’s statement
It must be remembered that prior to his departure to go seek treatment in the US, Bobi Wine was under arrest after government accused him of treason. His appeal application was granted by the Gulu Magistrates court before being driven to Kampala where he first sought treatment before flying to US.
