Betway Kobs Manage To Edge Past The Shell Rimula Rhinos

  • Betway Kobs triumphant at Legends Derby.
  • The definition of a Derby.
  • Brian Odong by far best captain in the league.

In  a rather nail biting rugby game, Betway Kobs managed to come out triumphant against their rival Shell Rimula Rhinos at Legends Rugby Club  on Saturday 11th February. Once again, the air stank of rivalry, on the stands between the fans and on the pitch. It was supposed to be a tense afternoon and the game lived to its billing. After the loss that the Betway Kobs suffered in first round against their rivals the Shell Rimula Rhinos, it was time for the former league champions to take their place and fight hard for the win they badly needed.

Betway Kobs who are now playing without a coach were depending mainly on the heart they have always had and put forward foe years. It was then put up to Captain Brian Odong to lead his team and he didn’t disappoint.  After the Rhinos side scoring the penalty to push the scores to 3-0 it was up to Captain Brian Odong to run through and score the first try. With a conversion from James Ilongat the scores quickly moved to 3-7 in favor of the Kobs.

Kobs however still succumbed to another penalty which had Jasper ochen of Rimula Rhinos kick for points instead of attempt to go for a line out to push them forward to make a try.  Micheal Amolo retaliated with an unconverted try for Kobs to bring the score to 06:12. But like any other derby, it only got harder for the Blues as the rhinos kept pushing against them hard.

After a much needed half time break, the Rhinos came back hard on their arch rivals; Rhinos’  Daudi Semwami then intercepted a pass from Adnan Mutebi to score a brilliant try which is took scores up and the game becomes tight. Betway kobs suffered two rather calculated drop kicks from Jasper Ochen that made the game tight and really it could have gone either way seeing that the rhinos were now 2 points up at 22-20.

By saving grace, the Rhinos who now got excited and failed to settle down then got penalized a few meters from the try line. A tired Kobs side chose to play it safe and go for points and the game ended soon after with a one point lead from the Betway Kobs. Man of the match went to Kobs Captain Brian Odong for leading his team to victory against all odds. As their slogan says “Poetry in motion” Kobs live to fight another day.
