Beyonce tops this years MTV Music Video Awards with eight nominations

The ‘Drunk in Love’ star has topped this year’s MTV Video Awards nominations. Beyonce has up to eight nominations including video of the year for Drunk in Love. Eminem and Iggy Azalea have been nominated for seven awards each. Pharell’s Happy is nominated for the top prize along with Azalea’s Fancy, Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball, Beyonce’s Drunk in Love and Sia’s Chandelier.

All nominated Beyonce songs are off her self-tilted fifth album. Partition is nominated for best female video cinematography, Drunk in love which features husband Jay-Z has been nominated for best collaboration, Pretty hurts which displays women’s issues and insecurities has been nominated for best direction, editing and video with social message.

Lee Anne Callahan-Longo general manager of Beyonce’s production house, Parkwood Entertainment said ‘This album was a labor of love and she had such a vision of wanting to be able to tell the story of this album visually as well as audio.’ ‘She really, really set out to do something special in a visual medium.’

Iggy Azalea’s Fancy is still riding high after it spent seven weeks at the top of the Billboard charts. Fancy has been nominated for best pop video and female video.

The VMAs will air on August 24, 2014 from The Forum in Inglewood, California.
