Patra the legendary Ragga queen was born as Dorothy Smith 22 November in Kingston Jamaica. first discovered to the industry after she was featured on Shabba Rank’s son ‘Family affair’ in 1994. she released her first album 1993 titled ‘Queen of the park’ but famously known for her worker man single and romantic call which featured on numerous count downs and international charts.
her second album Scent of attraction was released 1995 with songs like ‘Pull up to the bumper’ and other songs that did not do so well. she is also known for her raunchy short cut denim shorts that were later named ‘patras’ after her.
After her 2nd album she took off time to spend with her family and only returned 2003 with her 3rd album ‘The great escape’ with the single ‘Pressure me’, went on to feature two culture clash and ‘how do u you love’ with Danny English. her 4th album ‘Where i’ve been’ was released in 2005 with the singles like ‘man dem thriller’ and ‘Black cinderella’. she was also arrested that same year for fraud. after getting out she took a break from the music industry and got saved. Yes saved!! she completed her bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science.
She made a big return in 2012 as she signed with Veal-Steen music and did a series of interviews and released the single ‘Bad inna Bed’ and ‘Come ova’ and last year she announced her upcoming album sweet reggae music which was later released in April.
Patra is set to perform at the Megafest festival in Kampala on the 20th Sept. Now that is a performance not to be missed especially for the teens who don’t know her and every one that ever wiggled to ‘Romantic call’.
