Bobi Wine Accuses UMA Of Staying Silent After Government Banned His Concerts

Even before the outbreak of Coronavirus disease 19 (Covid-19) which forced the government to suspend social events and other public gatherings all in the name of curbing down its spread, musician-turned-politician Kyagulanyi Robert Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine had been banned by government from holding concerts

The main reason was because of his usage of what Police called a ‘language that incites the public’ at some of his shows before the ban

All his concerts in 2018, 2019 and early 2020, apart from the “Kyarenga Concert” which took place at his One Love Beach located in Busaabala, Wakiso district on 10th November 2018, were not allowed to take place even after complaining to the speaker of Parliament of Uganda.

Meawhile, as the veteran singer’s concerts were being canceled, Uganda Musicians Association which was founded in 2017 remained silent about the matter and let him fight this battle alone

Because of this, Bobi who recently expressed his big disappointment in a group of local artistes over going to ‘ask for handouts’ from General Salim Saleh also  accused the association and its leaders of remaining “loudly silent”  while what he called injustice of banning his concerts has been happening to him

“…before shows were banned on account of COVID19, I and Nubian Li were not allowed perform anywhere in Uganda. The regime made it clear that any artiste who dares to criticise its corruption and injustice was not going to be allowed to perform in this country. Uganda Musician’s Association (UMA), an association which we started to fight for the industry has been loudly silent about all this injustice. It was reduced to a beggars’ association. Bobi Wine wrote on his official Facebook Page

One of the Uganda Musicians Association’s objectives is to protect and preserve Ugandan music while promoting unity among musicians but like Bobi said, it is still  unclear why the association leaders didn’t bother to look into Bobi Wine’s issue.
