We recently published a story of how online concerts are becoming a big thing in Uganda during the lockdown. The new trend has not only given artistes an opportunity to kill boredom, but also a platform to interact with their fans who have equally been missing them and their performances.
In some few cases some promoters have also devised means for charging their audiences to make some dime during these hard times with viewers charged to access some of the concerts.
However, as the trend has been steadily picking up, the numbers in terms of views have not been that great with the likes of Club Pilsner, Swangz Avenue and FEZAH setting the earlier pace with some fair reach and interaction online.
Fast forward to last night, enter Bobi Wine the Bad Man from Kamwokya who just wrote history a broke attendance records in terms of views and now set the bar so high for others who may wish to follow along those lines.
Bobi Wine’s ENSASAGE MU NYUMBA Quarantine Special 2020 Concert alongside Nubian Li was viewed by over 28,000 people online on Facebook Live and over 20K others following on Youtube by the time we went to press. With shared posts and links, the ripple effect is so massive that, the numbers keep going up every second on different platforms. These figures have not been seen in recent times as concerns online concerts and events.
The concert to celebrate Mother’s Day has also been talk of town on the social media streets as many people shared links to the concert on WhatsApp while the hash tag #BobiWineOnlineShow has been trending top on twitter since yesterday with more than 15k tweets talking about the show.
The musician who is also a Member of Parliament in Uganda, has been having issues with authorities over holding public events with massive gatherings even long before the outbreak of Coronavirus for political reasons but this has now come as a much needed relief him and his ardent fans with minimal interruption.
The deadly Covid-19 has also worsened things forcing artistes to now limit their shows online which hopefully will get bigger and better after Bobi Wine set the bar much higher last night with his superb performance and production.
