In January, Nigerian singer Burna Boy fans were left disappointed when he lost the ‘Best World Music’ grammy award to Beninese legendary singer Angelique Kidjo although she after winning it, dedicated it to Burna
5 months later, last night Burna who has got a big fan base in Uganda beat his contenders to the 2020 BET Awards ‘Best International Act’ award.
The awards organised by Black Entertainment Television, USA were held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic and from different locations.
Burna’s award was presented to him by British model Naomi Campbell and he beat his fellow nominees such as Innoss’B from DRC, South African singer Sho Madjozi, U.K. acts Dave & Stormzy, and France’s Ninho & S.Pri Noir.
“I’ll like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was a mission to turn Africa into a dominated nation. Now is the time to overturn that and go back to the royalty that we were, because, in order for black lives to matter, Africa must matter.” Said Burna Boy in his award acceptance speech

This is the second time Burna Boy is winning this award, first being at the 2019 edition of these awards whose aim is to celebrate achievements in entertainment and honor music, sports, television, and movies.
