Cafe Javas at Victoria Mall on Berkeley Road in Entebbe, last night left the whole country worrying and in deep shock after its ceiling collapsed. Varied reports came out of casualties with some claiming there were injuries while others saying there were no people inside by the time it collapsed.
Some eye witnesses have also reported that, there were people inside although no serious injuries reported by the time we went to press. Cafe Javas is a popular eat out and hangout joint with several branches around the country.
The management of the building Knight Frank Uganda earlier released a statement to clear the air and rectify on the reports although certain things are not clear like what would have caused the fall.
“As you may be aware or may have witnessed, there were parts of the ceiling boards inside the Cafe Java premises in Victoria Mall Entebbe that fell down last night . This happened in the evening past 9pm towards the closing hours of business on Wednesday 5th April. We’d like to confirm that there were no injuries or casualties sustained as a result of this incident. “
As ususal the management is carrying thorough investigations to ascertain the causes and hopefully we can get a report on all this as the safety of the citizens can be at a huge risk with such occurrences.
“At the moment our primary concern is for the safety of all involved; especially our beloved customers, therefore we are undertaking thorough investigations to ascertain the cause of this incident. Together with our dear tenant we shall also institute immediate measures to avoid a repeat of the same”.
The management also decided to close the whole place for renovation and sent the following message;
“This is to inform you that we had an unfortunate incident at our Victoria Mall Entebbe Branch last night 4th April 2017 when part of the ceiling board collapsed. Fortunately no one was hurt. We are grateful to God for that.
We take the safety of our customers and staff very seriously and hence we shall close the Entebbe branch and ensure that full repairs are made. We regret the inconvenience this will cause. In the mean time we invite you to visit our seven other branches in Kampala where we will be glad to serve you.”
