In a twist of events, Carol Atuhirwe, a cancer patient who has been soliciting funds to travel to the US for further cancer treatment has today surprised many when she decided to divert the extra money to Mulago cancer institute.
Prior to the fundraising drive, Carol needed shs270million for her surgery but as of now, a total of 324million has so far been raised through a number of activities that included car wash drives at Panamera bar, Mbarara and Fortportal as well as individual and company contributions.
According to Muhereza Kyamutetera, the organizing committee chairman of this drive, he said that Carol just decided to give back to Mulago cancer institute and this was during a thanksgiving service earlier today at All-saints cathedral where she wanted to thank everyone who contributed for her wellbeing.
“Thank you Uganda, The Save Carol campaign has so far raised Shs324,603,399. This is Shs54 million above our estimated need of Shs270 million. We are now in final consultations with doctors on the final treatment and travel details as well as final costs. All remaining funds, Atuhirwe Carol has advised to be given to Uganda Cancer Institute.” He said on his Facebook wall.
