Golden band singer Catherine Kusasira was released from prison today morning after she made her sureties to the president of the federation of Uganda performing artistes Benon Kibuuka.
Catherine, who was arrested last evening and sent to Kigo prison, presented herself to the court on charges of stealing a song and failing to pay the composer of the track.
However the Judge said that it was too late to read her charges sentenced her to a night in prison something that wasn’t taken lightly by some of her fans especially MP Nabila Naggayi who said,
‘It is a malicious practice by mafia-like lawyers to connive with Magistrates and take someone to Prison citing late file entry.’
Catherine is accused of stealing money by false pretense after she acted as the middleman in the transaction of money from fellow artiste Iryn Namubiru and upcoming artiste cum songwriter Lyto Boss.
It is reported that Lyto Boss sold ‘Anjagala’ track to Catherine Kusasiira but she didn’t complete her payment and she decided to also sell the track to Iryn Namubiru who released it immediately.
Lyto Boss then decided to also release his version of the song and this became chaotic as all three artistes claimed they had full ownership of it.
The songwriter, then decided to get help from his lawyers who opened up a case file against Kusasiira and Iryn but the latter through her lawyers was able to come out clear of the charges, leaving Catherine as the prime suspect.
All this could have been resolved out of court, but Catherine and Iryn Namubiru could barely tolerate each other.
