Having lost her husband to throat cancer, Celine Dion battled with the grief as she returned to the Caesars Palace’s Colosseum in Las Vegas yesterday, to celebrate his life.
René Angélil who passed away about three weeks ago was just two days shy of his 74th birthday and the soulful singer said that she still feels his love in the room. During the tribute to the fallen star, Celine Dion talked about how he protected her during her early days of her career.
‘I was never part of any of the meetings that he had where he had to say yes or no. He protected me from Day one to for the rest of my life, I am pretty sure of that,’ she said.
With over 4,000 guests in the crowd Celine Dion could barely hold back her tears as she delivered a powerful speech.
‘This is my home away from home.
‘At the same time I’m supposed to feel extremely comfortable being home and right now I’m not sure how comfortable I feel.’
‘I feel his love in this room. I feel his strength and his warmth being reflected in all of you,’ she added ‘René always surrounded me with the best people who believed in us and always worked so hard on our behalf.’
‘The love of my life … would be so happy to know we are all here together telling stories, sharing memories, playing some of his favorite music. And especially in this beautiful theater which many years ago was one of his dreams come true.’
The 47 year old concluded the memorial by saying, ‘On behalf of my family, thank you again for being here with us this evening for this beautiful tribute to mon amour. René I love you, so much, merci, good night.’
