The first season of the Kampala Ice Cream and Cake festival went down in a mellow yesterday at the Uganda Museum, with children taking centre stage at most of the activities, that’s at least before diva Irene Ntale took to the stage to perform some of her top songs.
The event meant to be a family outing to enjoy Ice cream and Cakes, was almost hijacked by the youngsters after outnumbering their adult counterparts and also taking part in most of the fun activities and competitions throughout the afternoon.
Young Ezekiel Mutesasira son to gospel artiste Julie Mutesasira and Pastor stole the show after he beat other youngsters in the dancing competition after beating several other children and crowned it with an effortless rendition of Jackie Senyonjo’s ‘Netaaka Gwe’ which she did with her sister Pretty Esther Mutesasira and was rewarded with goodies from sponsors CreamBell and Coca Cola.
The Children’s play areas were busy throughout the day and Mixakids Newspaper had a colourful tent where children took part in painting and jewellery making with parents mostly seated as they enjoyed the delicious ice creams and cakes from sponsors CreamBell and other companies.
The evening session that stretched to late in the night was dedicated to the parents and adults where stage performances from upcoming artistes was the main item on the menu. DJs Slick Stuart and Roja took to the wheels of steel. Irene Ntale then drew the crowd closer to the stage and the excited fans sang along as the children joined her on stage.
