A few weeks ago, a new musicians association (United Musicians Superstars Association, UMSA) was formed and veteran singer Jose Chameleone was elected as its president
It is now a registered entity with objectives, constitution and goal although its formation has raised nothing controversy not only in the music industry space but also in the public.
Stakeholders in the music industry have been concerned and seeking to know the motive of this new association, given that Chameleone who in 2017 founded the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) seems to have ‘dumped it’ for a new one which he is president elect.
As the many questions about the formation of United Musicians Superstars Association are still being raised, more artistes have started joining it and one of them is faded veteran singer Clever J who a few days ago announced that he joined as well.
“This is a super stars association so I have joined to be involved with it” Clever J said in an interview with Spark TV
The “Manzi Wa Nani” hit singer also revealed that no one called nor asked him to join this association, adding that Chameleone was right to form to form it and deserves to be its the leader
“Chameleone is a player of musical instruments, he is a singer, he is a dancer, he is a producer and a songwriter. Don’t you people see that he deserves that given that he has been around?” Explained Clever J
Meanwhile, some critics viewed the formation of this association as a move to make money basing on the information that the Operation Wealth Creation leader General Salim Saleh plans to give money to artistes as compensation due to the suspension of social events which have been one of their main sources of income but Chameleone came out and denied that allegation
“Some People have made our intentions seem as if we are looking for money and this and that but little do they know that the time we have been here as artistes, we want to add something memorable to our country” He said at the press conference.
