Club Mega Fest: Shaggy Mr Boombastic Is ‘Coming Home’

He once called Uganda his home and that he loves Ugandan women. And promised to come back any time he is needed here. Well true to his words, Shaggy Mr Boombastic ‘Lover Man’ is coming back home for the Nth time.

This time he is jetting in to headline at the much anticipated four-in-one Club Mega Fest slated for 20th of this month at Mandela International stadium in Namboole. The concert that will be first of its kind in Uganda, will see four international artists share the same stage. Others on the star studded line-up include, Mafikizolo (South Africa), Burna Boy (Nigeria) and veteran Dance hall and Ragga queen Patra (Jamaica)

Club Pilsner Brand Manager, Samuel Hooper, who was so excited while officially unveiling the concert earlier, revealed that the show will start from 12 Noon and will go on till 12 midnight. There will also be performances from top Ugandan artists to beef up the concert.

“As a brand we are proud to have nailed down these artistes,” said Hooper. “It has been quite a long process but we are proud to have reached this stage. But as you realize it is far from the end. It is only a continuation of the work that has been going on back-end.”

The local supporting cast will feature self confessed music Doctor Jose Chameleone, Gagamel boss Bebe Cool, Radio and Weasel, Cindy among other local top artistes as well as comedians Alex Muhangi and Salvador, DJs Apeman and Aluda will add oomph to top it up.

“The choice of artistes was informed by the brand’s drive to ensure that everyone’s interests are catered for, and this is what we’ve got from Club customers countrywide. Nothing will be enforced on anyone. Everyone should be themselves. That’s what Club is all about,” added Hooper.


Mafikizolo will be in town too

Shaggy, real names Orville Richard Burrell was born October 22, 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica.. He is a Jamaican-Americanreggae fusion singer and deejay. He is best known for his hit singles “Boombastic“, “It Wasn’t Me” and “Angel“. He is said to have taken his stage name from his shaggy hair and at one time served in the US military with the Marine Corps. In Uganda, his classic hit ‘summertime’ still rocks airwaves todate.

Other popular Shaggy songs include, ‘It wasn’t me’, ‘Intoxication’, ‘For Your Eyez Only’ featuring Alaine,’ Church heathen’ and ‘Summer in Kingston’ among others.

He was last here in 2009 for the Orange Carnival and to roll out the Orange network in Uganda and is a favourite of many in Uganda. His concerts are always sell outs and this will be no different.


Hopper while addressing the press said the concert is part of Club Pilsner’s greater support to the music industry, aimed at growing and supporting several local artistes through various music sponsorships and partnerships including but not limited to album launches, Street Jams, Club DJ Awards and the monthly Unplugged shows in Club Silk.

Entry fee for the Mega Fest will be at 20,000/= (ordinary) and 50,000/= (VIP)
