Club Mega Fest: Things You Need To Know About Mafikizolo

Mafikizolo is a South African band which is commonly for their afro-soul music.

The group originally consisted of three members: Nhlanhla Nciza (the Lady), Theo Kgosinkwe and Tebogo Madingoane. Unfortunately, Tebogo Madingoane passed away in 2004, after he was shot during a heated argument with another driver in traffic.

The group made their debut in 1997, with their first album named Mafikizolo. They released their second album in 1999 and went on to top the charts with their third album ‘Gate Crashers’ because of the strong message, it carries. Fans were left touched and those who hated on the group made a major U-turn because of the great impact the lyrics had on their lives.

Mafikizolo saw their fame further skyrocket when they released ‘Sibongile’ in 2002. Sibongile which is a Zulu word that means ‘We are thankful’, was inspired after they survived a fatal car accident in December 2001 and had God to thank for their lives.

Despite the success, the band was left in shatters when Tebogo Madingoane passed away. The mere thought of moving on without him was so hard, but the duo pushed on and released three more albums Kwela, Van Toeka Af and Six Mabone. They later decided to take a much deserved break in 2008 and pursued solo careers.

Nhlanhla Nciza went through a trying time when she lost her 5 year old daughter, Zinathi to a car accident in December, 2009. She says it’s God’s Love that got her through the difficult time. “I am living proof that as long as you put your trust in Him, you will come out of even the darkest places.”

Mafikizolo reunited in 2010 after two years apart and went on to win several awards like the MTV Africa Awards 2014 for ‘Best Group and ‘Song of the Year’ ‘Khona’. Khona, which was met with great reception throughout Africa, also got a lot of air play throughout Uganda. The song had many Ugandans coming up with several dance shuffles to match the song’s beat. Even though the lyrics were like unknown to most Ugandan fans, that didn’t stop them from getting in on the dance craze.

Khona which means “There or that place”, is a call to those at “that sad place.” So basically they’re calling back their long lost loved ones to come back.
The song says:

“Where is my love?
Please return it,
To where you found it
I want it to return to me,
From that place.”

Mafikizolo is set to perform at the club mega Fest, which is slated for 20th September at the Namboole Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

You can’t afford to miss because this is the first concert of its kind.  Come witness history in the making.
