February 14th 2020 which will be Valentine’s Day will also be one of the most memorable and special days in the life of award-winning comedian Patrick ‘Salvado’ Idringi as he will be celebrating 10 years in the industry as well as his 35th Birthday.
Salvado who is arguably Uganda’s funniest man is set to take Ugandans on a rib-cracking fest dubbed ‘Africa Laughs’ alongside some of the best talent from the continent at the expansive Kololo Airstrip ceremonial grounds.
We have watched him on social media channels and attended his past shows as well as those where he has featured as a guest performer both on the local and internal scene. Now it’s time for the extremely gifted and natural, blunt and hilarious “Man from Ombokolo” to showcase yet again some fresh material as he celebrates 10 years in the comedy industry.
Salvado who draws his humour from events in society and his village Ombokolo decided to trade his engineering career for stand-up comedy a decision which he has cherished since then. Now a decade later, the decision had proved to be the best he ever made.
While addressing journalists at a press conference at Speke Apartments to announce his tenth anniversary show yesterday, the much sought-after comedian revealed that comedy has changed his life and helped him grow as a person.
“I’m forever grateful to my sisters who pushed me to join stand-up comedy in Uganda, they were so persistent,” Salvado added.
“I will be coming on stage as a performer just like the rest and not as the host of the event to present my 45-minute fresh material that has not been seen anywhere before”. He added.
First held in 2013, Africa Laughs in partnership with The Singleton will this year be running its fifth lap and to celebrate the milestone, Salvado will be joined by international comedy giants like Kenny Blaq, Eric Omondi, Eddie Kadi and Alfred Kaingo in addition to our own Crème de la Crème, such as Daniel Omara, Prince Emma,Ronnie McVex, Agnes Akite and Mad Rat & Chicko.
Ali Alibhai the boss of Talent Africa the new partners announced that, East Africa’s bongo star Harmonize will be part of proceedings and add the love flavour to the event as he will be joined by a ‘surprise line-up’ of local talent to warm up the stage.
Salvado’s blend of laugh-out-loud humour and attention to ridiculous details while narrating stories has earned him a widespread following across Africa and beyond, making the laugh fiesta the most-anticipated comedy show of the year.
“The Singleton believes in crafting first impressions while creating lasting ones, something that Salvado has been able to do all through the years. He has for the last 10 years put smiles on people’s faces through his comedic genius, giving his audience around the world unforgettable memories,” said Annette Nakiyaga Head of Luxury Portfolio at UBL.
Singleton 15 year-old and 18 year-old will be launched on that day while other sponsors Speke Apartments, Capital FM, Fenon Events, Quicket, Harold Executive Rides and Expresso all pledged their massive support to the event.
