Uganda’s comedy industry is growing rapidly especially stand up comedy with many local stars already etching a name for themselves on the international scene. The likes of award winning star Anne Kansiime, Daniel Omara, Kenneth “Pablo” Kimuli and Museveni impressionist Herbert Mendo Segujja.
However two stars that have cracked the ribs of many across the globe are Salvador and Aleku because of their natural flow in the style of their approach to comedy. They have become a darling of many.
A few years back, no one knew or cared about stand up comedy in Uganda. But a group of young Ugandans have made it a respectable job as they are paid handsomely for their efforts. Today, stand up comedy or whatever passes for it in Uganda is, by far, the most rapidly growing art. From the stage to their television sets, Ugandans are falling in love with comedy.
Alex Muhangi who formerly worked as a sound engineer with Fenon Records is now a director at the newly established Master Records. He is also CEO of the Crackers Comedy Group. He is famously known by his stage name Aleku .He is popular for his jokes centered around the tribes from Western Uganda.
Alex Muhangi whose rib-cracking jokes have earned him fame on both local and international level, is well traveled. He just recently flew for the UK convention alongside Ronald Mayinja, Desire Luzinda, Judith Babirye where he cracked ribs and also hosted the night’s events and after party.
“They should get ready to be administered with an overdose of laughter since it’s the only over dose with healthy effects to the body,” Aleku said earlier
Salvador real names Patrick Idringi is a Telecommunications Engineer, Comedian, Actor and events MC. He also formerly worked as a radio presenter on 91.3 Capital FM. He realized his Comedy talent in 2010 after coming second in the MNET reality TV series dubbed Stand-up Uganda.
He co-founded The Crackers a stand-up comedy outfit that used to have weekly shows in Kampala which grew to be one of the biggest crowd pullers in Uganda.
He shot to prominence after quitting his Engineering Job at MTN in 2011 where he was working as a switch Engineer to concentrate on his new found passion. A decision that paid off because ever since then, he has become one of the most sought after Comedians and MCs in the country.
He has performed in very many countries around the world.
Saturday surely presents yet another opportunity for these stars to showcase their talents and entertain the big crowd expected at the Fest.
