Denis Onyango Parades ‘African Player Of The Year’ Award

As we write this, Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango is in South Africa training with his club Mamelodi Sundowns with which he has also signed a new 4-year contract, but before he left for South Africa, he did something that he, and Kenzo know how to do best which is parading awards.

Yes, after winning the first ever BET award in East Africa, Uganda artiste Eddy Kenzo about three years ago decided to move around with his accolade everywhere to the extent that it somehow got damaged; at least that is what some entertainment websites reported. He moved with it in every media house he had interviews with and even to some events.

We thought that was all over but last week, Denis Onyango pulled the same move of taking his ‘African player of the year’ (based in Africa) award everywhere he went. Among the places the Mamelodi Sundowns FC goalkeeper took the trophy includes Kwese TV, Kitende Secondary School, Bidco offices, Club Guvnor, even to radio stations like Galaxy FM.

Unlike Kenzo who gave it to people to pose with his award, Onyango didn’t give them a chance as he was also part of the pictures and the same time the one holding the trophy.

Denis Onyango has done what no other Ugandan footballer has ever achieved by getting his name encrypted among the heroes of the national football team as one of the players who helped Uganda cranes reach the Africa Cup of Nations after 39 years in Gabon.

However, it wasn’t only Uganda that got the services of Onyango as he also helped his club win its first ever champions league title and winning the league at the same time..
