Joshua Muzune is the Vice president of Deuces Entertainment Group. The Kansanga based company boasts of a record label, Hotel and Restaurant and a Recording label that also handles artistes management. He is therefore directly in charge of artistes signed under the label like former Blu3 singer Lilian Mbabazi and Hip- Hop star Atlas the Africa. Chano8 Digital Magazine had a chat with Joshua on his role at DEG and his contribution in the entertainment industry.
Qn: What does it take for one to manage an artiste professionally?
An artiste managing company has to invest in the artist, pay for the videos, make sure the artiste is dressed right and ensuring that the marketing machinery is in place and this is basically financing the artiste. Management also includes managing the day to day activities of the artiste like booking shows, scheduling interviews, public relations make sure they are going for performances, doing practice, money should be collected, accounted for and banked etc.
The manager works for the artiste while the record label is a partnership bond with the artiste and manager. Lillian Mbabazi is managed by us and is also in our record label while Atlas The African is in our label, but is managed by Diamond Platinumz’ manager, Salam.
Qn: What does it take to own a competitive record label?
You need to have a dedicated team with a well defined chain of command. You need to shoot high end videos, market them, do good public relations, etc which requires a lot of resources to execute properly.
