Distribution Of Free Masks By Government Moving On In North, As Arua Is Next

The distribution of free masks by government under Ministry of Health was launched on June 10th and the program seems to be moving on well especially in border districts with parts of Northern Uganda and Eastern covered.

The nationwide exercise which targets is all Ugandans aged six years and above, was flagged off by Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali in Kampala as the country strives to combat the spread of COVID-19.

According to the ministry of health, the first 750,000 masks would first be be distributed to communities in border districts of Adjumani, Amuru, Kyotera and Rakai where the risk of importing the disease from neighboring countries is high.

Over 30 million masks are expected to be distributed countrywide starting with bordering districts which are more prone to the virus than the rest of the country according to the ministry. This was after President Yoweri Museveni said wearing face masks in public is now mandatory as the country eases the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

“If you want us to overcome the virus, listen to the advice given. Make sure you put on a mask at all times in public and if you have nothing to do in town, stay home,” Museveni said.

While launching the distribution in Eastern Uganda, State Minister for General Duties Robinah Nabbanja emphasized that every person will be expected to wear a face mask while in public places, and cautioned the task force committee together with security to enforce the directive and ensure that coronavirus disease is kept at bay.

Next week the distribution heads to Westnile and particularly in Arua on Monday. Hon Minister Joyce Moriku Kaducu will flag off the distribution in Arua town and all sub-counties are expected to be covered.

Uganda has now as of yesterday 25th June 2020 registered a Total of 833 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 761 recoveries
