Ecobank Injects 450M As Fundraising Is Launched For Uganda Cranes

On Tuesday 22nd November, Ecobank joined the likes of Airtel Uganda in partnering with Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to support the National soccer team the Uganda Cranes with a 3-year sponsorship package worth UGX 450 Million.

Ecobank who came in as the financial partners, also jointly launched a campaign to raise funds for the team to comfortably participate in the African Cup of nations in Gabon January next year. The Cranes have qualified for the big continental show case for the first time after 39years.

The campaign dubbed as ‘Cranes Nalo Na Kaja’ is a drive that will see Cranes fans contribute to supporting the Uganda Cranes budget of 6billion that will cater for their travel accommodation and other expenses during the campaign in Gabon.  In the process, the fans also stand a chance of winning 50 all expenses paid trips by entering a draw.

To stand a chance, a fan has to deposit Shs.10, 000 or more or send by mobile money to 0701-224433 where there are also other prizes to be won.

The Ecobank Managing Director Mr. Clement Dodoo while speaking at the press conference to announce the sponsorship and campaign said having been a football administrator himself, he was personally impressed with the way FUFA is running the football administration affairs and partly that’s why he was convinced to come on board.


Magogo launches the funraising drive

“Uganda has waited a long time to qualify. Now that we have qualified, we need to make make sure we excel. That is where the input of each one of you comes in. Let us come together and support, Namutiima.” He said at the press conference held in Nile Hall, Serena Hotel in Kampala.

FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo was happy with the development and thanked Ecobank for coming on board promising to make sure things are done in a professional manner at the federation. Also in attendance were the Ecobank Bank Executive Director Annette Kihuguru and members of staff, Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic, FUFA Vice president Denis Mbidde, Vice Captain Hassan Mawanda Wasswa and Nicholas Wadada.
