Ugandan singer and BET Award winner Eddy Kenzo real name Edirisa Musuza has been crying to government and anyone else who cares to give an ear or eye to forge a away for him to return to Uganda amidst the coronavirus outbreak.
Kenzo, together with many others abroad have since been trapped out of the country following the president’s directive to halt all international and local flights in and outside Uganda as a measure to curb the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
The ‘Semwokozo’ singer in particular, who must be cursing the outbreak of the disease, had travelled alongside his band to Ivory Coast for a concert following the cancellation of his inaugural Eddy Kenzo festival which was scheduled for February 2020.
Things got worse for him when President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni suspended all flights on March 18th 2020 while he was still in Ivory Coast. It even got beyond misery when last Thursday, Health Minister Dr Ruth Achieng insisted no one will be allowed to return in the country till further notice.
Achieng advised Kenzo and those still abroad who want to return to the country to “stay where they are until the situation normalizes”.
This was after a journalist inquired whether government would be in position to help the likes of Kenzo who have been crying on social media to be allow them to return.
Before the clarification, Kenzo had also asked Ugandans to pray for him amid fears that he might lose his life in Ivory Coast, one of the countries under total lockdown due to the pandemic ravaging across the globe.
After a series of desperate appeals for his home country’s intervention to no avail, the singer appeared to have finally accepted the bitter fate that befell him and concluded that only prayers can save him now.
“Otherwise, let’s stay safe and pray for one another. Pray for me as I also pray for you to overcome this crisis,” Kenzo wrote before adding that the situation is Ivory Coast where he is caught up was very hopeless with cases accumulating each day that passes.
“Cases are accumulating each and every day here in Ivory Coast. People are honestly sick,” He observed.
However, many of his followers blamed him for travelling in a risky period in the name of looking for money with suggesting he deserves the suffering.
Another celebrity who is stranded abroad is Socialite Nalongo Do Zella who has also been telling her social media followers that the quarantine in UK has found made her lonely because it got her with no husband but only her children. She now wants to get married as soon as possible.
Others include Uganda Cranes Goalkeeper and Captain Denis Misinde Onyango who had planned to return to Uganda from South Africa in preparation for an AFROCN qualifier against South Sudan. Most of his foreign-based team mates in the national team are also still stranded out there in different countries.
