Excitement As Uganda Cranes Take On Botswana In AFCON Qualifier


Mandela National Stadium, Namboole Kickoff Time: 4.00PM

Excitement is sky rocketing once again as serious soccer returns at Mandela National stadium in Namboole today at 4:00pm. Uganda Cranes take on Botswana Zebras in what is expected to be an exciting group D AFCON 2017 qualifier encounter.

Uganda Cranes warmed up for this game with a one all draw against Gabon this week  and is expected to up the game this time round as a lot is expected from the national team after painful near misses in the last three or four campaigns.

Although the Cranes have a decent record in the opening home games of any qualifiers (having won seven out of seven fixtures), recent form suggests anything can happen and therefore the cranes have to stay focussed throughout the 90 minutes after many players looked unfit in the last friendly game played at the same venue in midweek.

However new optimism has rubbed into the team after the under 21 national team the Kobs performed well against Rwanda winning 4-1 on aggregate and some of the key players like Uganda Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Farouk Miya who have been invited by Cranes Coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic to bolster the senior squad.

Although the serb the Serb will also be without suspended captain Andrew Mwesigwa, experienced midfield trio of Tonny Mawejje, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Moses Oloya plus strikers Emmanuel Okwi and Hamis Kiiza who were omitted.

And with events promoter Balaam incharge of Uganda Cranes games in Namboole, a lot of entertainment is expected from local artistes and comedians. Uncle money as usual will lead the morale boosting section alongside Vuvuzela maestro Kamodo.
