It is very rare to experience traffic jam in Kampala on a Sunday morning but yesterday, there was a full jam this time of excited people who had come to party at the annual Kampala City Festival now in its fourth edition. Kampala executive director Jennifer Musisi dressed in a red lovely dress, reflectors and a carnival hat flagged off the celebrations in the morning.
People from all walks of life thronged Kampala road which was cordoned off to motorists for free merry-making as companies erected tents all over Kampala road stretching from Bombo Road near Watoto Church to Jinja Road round-about with loud music blaring from huge speakers all over the stretch.
Carnival moods were activated with a street rally on Saturday which continue to Sunday morning with drivers pulling exciting, adrenaline-inducing, fully-blown-action stunts like those in movies.
The colourful caravans were also a sight to behold as skimpily dressed girls in bikinis and marks danced alongside skaters and bikers as the caravan snaked through. Top companies like Mains sponsors Uganda Breweries under Bell brand, MTN, Movit, KCCA, Nile Breweries and many others exhibited their products and also had ambassadors match through the streets.
There were two massive stages for entertainments – one for KCCA near Railways while the other by Bell lager at the National theatre where the Tubbaale campaign came to an exciting end with revellers walking away with variety of goodies. Kampala Capital City Authority ED Jennifer Musisi excited revers at the KCCA stage when she joined Radio and Weasel on stage.
Many artistes entertained the crowd at the KCCA stage but it was at the Bell stage where the top artistes excited partiers the most. Janzi Band and Michael Ouma took to the stage first before, Swangz Avenue team consisting Zolanada, Blacksin, Winnie Nwagi and Irene Ntale entertained the crowd. Gagamel Boss Bebe Cool drove the crowd mad with his ‘Kabulangan’e hit song as well as veteran Jose Chameleone who attracted crowds watching through the fences.
Other performances came from Sheeba Karungi, Ziza Bafana and Goodlyfe crew of Radio and Weasel with DJ Cream taking over the dance session till late in the night.
