Real men stepped out into the night yesterday, but not with their wives this time. Their big fatherly hands were clasped around the little hands of their daughters, dragging them to the floor for a dance to remember. The radiance on the ‘daddy’s girls’ faces was visible all night, as the clutched their old men, and got lost in the moment. This was at the third edition of the Father-Daughter Dance, held in Katonga Hall at the Kampala Serena hotel, Kampala.
The guests were ushered into the neatly laid hall, a rose essence filling the air. The event host Abbey Mukiibi started right away, lighting the crowd up with stereotype jokes. He invited legendary Afrigo member Joanita Kawalya, who wowed the audience with tracks like Wololo, Mukama Onjagala, and Jim that got everyone on their feet. Nince Henry and Herbert Sessanga were the other entertainers of the night.
The Founder and organizer of the event, Jamilla Mayanja was happy with the crowd for coming to support a noble cause.
“After three months of hard work, it feels good to have so many of you here, for the sake of the girls abandoned by their fathers, and for the respect of the fathers who stayed and raised their daughters” she said in her speech.
She awarded the most inspiring father and daughter, with glass awards upon the podium.
As the hours sped by, fathers got up to dance with their little girls. Notably among these was Jaki O, whose father pulled off some really funky dance moves. Other fathers included Ethan Musolini and Rotary District Governor Rotarian Bob Nsibirwa.
The event was sponsored by a number of organisations like NBS TV, MixaKids, Serena Hotels, BCF, Cash Value and Rotary International.
