Earlier today Sunday the 28th of October, former Democratic Party (DP) leader and veteran Ugandan politician Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere collapsed during a mass at Rubaga Cathedral where he had gone for his Sunday prayers.
The incident scared the congregation and immediately after he fell, the 86-year-old was carried out and rushed to nearby Rubaga Hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention
It is said to have been an ailment although no clear information tells the cause of his abrupt collapse. The good news is that members of his family have confirmed that Ssemogerere who was born on 11th February 1932 in Kisubi, a Wakiso surbub, is in a stable condition as they wait for the doctor’s reports.
He was the leader of the DP for 25 years and one of the main players in Ugandan politics before his retirement in 2005.
He stood against ruling president Museveni in the 1996 presidential elections as the DP flag bearer
He was also the presidential candidate in the disputed 1980 general elections which were won by Milton Obote.
We wish him a quick recovery.
