Former Olympic star Oscar Pistorius has been released from a South African prison and placed under house arrest. The former star had been in prison since last October after he was found guilty of culpable homicide in the killing of his girlfriend and sentenced to five years in prison.
According to the defence, Oscar shot his girlfriend having mistaken for an intruder.
However, last week the South African Parole board said it had approved placement under house arrest and correctional supervision for four years.
The family of the deceased said nothing will bring their daughter back. According to the Steenkamp family lawyer,
“Nothing has changed for June and Barry, nothing will bring Reeva back,” Tania Koen said, referring to Steenkamp’s parents. “They are not surprised at all by this announcement. They expected this.”
The South African correctional service act allows convicted felon to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest if he/she has already served at least one-sixth of their sentence.
