Fort Portal’s Leah Kagasa Emerges Miss Uganda 2016-17

Last night at Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall, Uganda and the world at large witnessed the coronation of Miss Uganda who emerged as Miss Leah Kagasa 21 and a marketing degree holder from Makerere University Business School (MUBS).


And the winner is Leah Kagasa from Fort Portal. Former Miss Uganda 2015-16 Ms Zahara Nakiyaga crowns her successor

Hailing from the Western Uganda district of Fort Portal, Leah beat the other 20 girls to become the queen and according to criteria followed in choosing her, it means that Leah is beautiful, eloquent, confident, intelligent and above all, her beauty is with a purpose according to Miss Uganda Foundation’s slogan, the organisers.

How the rest of the coronation night went down

Gates opening as early as 7:20 PM, it was a night well spent as revellers gathered in Victoria hall to see how the coronation ceremony would take place. It was a red carpet kind of set up at the hall’s entrance where live TV interviews were done and at the same acting as a spot for taking pictures. Miss Uganda was sponsored by Movit , Chano8 , BBS TV, Huawei Uganda, Galaxy Fm, Brovad Sands Lodge among others.

The judges and among them was Mrs Sylvia Namutebi 3rd from left (Miss Uganda 2011) and Mrs Elizabeth Mushabe the Finance and operations director SMS ONE/Chano8 (Right)

Shortly the contestants came to say hallo to the revellers and later was a music performance from singer Ju Sanga of Taala records. After, the girls one by one did the run way walk for the attendees to see and appreciate before the coronation of Miss Regionals commenced.

Miss Uganda North, West, East and Central were later crowned respectively amid lots of ululations from the crowd. More music performances from Kent and Flosso (Voltage Music) took centre stage and later resumed with the crowning of other winners in categories like Miss Photogenic, Beach Beauty, Congeniality, Rising Woman, Talent, Personality, People’s choice, Popularity, Sports queen and Agricultural ambassadors.

As time for main activity drew closer, the judges forwarded the list of the top 10 girls who stepped forward and were asked hot questions by the judges and it is from the question approach and answering that the judges again selected the top 5 from which the Queen was chosen.

This session was quite a hilarious one as the majority of the girls nervously kept asking Judges to repeat the questions in spite of their (judges) audibility. This was closed by another round of performances from comedian Dr T who cracked revellers mimicking presidential advisor, motor mouthed Tamale Mirundi and later Sauti Africa band.

As the event was being wound up, the top 5 girls were announced by the Judges, followed by songstress Naava Grey’s performance. Without a waste of time, the first ever Miss Uganda, FDC’s honourable Cecilia Ogwal was called upon to give her remarks and lastly amid a lot of ululations, the second and first runners up were announced and crowning of Miss Uganda 2016-17 Miss Leah Kagasa concluded the event.

There were many celebrities and socialites and among them were Ali Allibhai, Miss Uganda 2013 Stella Nantubwe, tycoon SK Mbuga, fashion designer SK Mbuga, socialite Edson Kasyata, galaxy FM’s Mr Mosh and Miss Uganda 2014 Leah Kalanguka.
